Homeschool Class for Children Ages 5-8

Nature Detectives

Mondays 1:30 – 2:15

March 12 – May 21

$130 for 10 week session

Children will use their five senses to explore the forest and trails surrounding Wildwood Nature School. Through the course of 10 weeks, we will learn about the diversity of plant and animal life in our Portland forest habitat; identify flora by texture, shape and smell; find animal homes; and explore the different survival strategies of plants and animals.

Each session is linked to a short work of fiction or non-fiction and includes time to reflect in a nature journal. The entire session is held outdoors, with the possible exception of journaling when it is raining. Children should dress in weather appropriate clothing. Hiking or rain boots are recommended.

The session is taught by lead teacher, Nicole Fravel, who holds an Oregon state teaching certificate, a Masters degree from Stanford University and has over 10 years experience teaching at the elementary level. The course is aligned with Next Generation science standards.
